The Hoot Owl Cocktails

A while back I wrote about a delightful Vietnamese restaurant called Avina’s located in the Fry’s shopping center at 43rd Avenue & Bell rd.  Right next door I recently discovered The Hoot Owl Cocktail Lounge. Jim and Laurie, the owners have remodeled the place and given it a fresh look.  The lounge has been in this location for fifteen years. 

A sign on the door reads, “Where good friends meet.”   The “Hoot”, as the patrons lovingly refer to it as has a nice neighborhood crowd.


The bar opens at 9:00 am and closes at 1:00 am most nights and 2:00 am on Friday and Saturday.  Happy hour is from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday- Friday; featuring discounted drink prices and hors deouvres. 

On Saturdays Terry serves up the best Bloody Mary in Phoenix, replete with tantalizing garnishes, like olives, pearl onions and even marinated asparagus.  These are a bargain at $1.50 until 2:00 pm.  There is a pool tournament with hors deouvres and a $10 entry fee.

The Hoot has Karaoke Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.  The bartenders are Marsha, Laurie, Lori, Terry, Robin, Deanna and Pam. On Thursday nights Robin hosts Customer Appreciation night featuring $ 2.00 U-Callits which I assume are well cocktails wine and beer. 

The Hoot is the classic neighborhood hangout where everybody knows your name.  They also feature a great jukebox selection and big screen TV for sporting events and pool.   Check it out the next time you’re in the neighborhood.
