Hiking Around Tucson and Arizona
with Kim Beck

Finger Rock Trail

My favorite hike in Tucson (so far) is Finger Rock Trail.

It begins at the north end of Alvernon off Skyline and is about a 10-mile round-trip.

The elevation climb of 3,100 to 7,255 feet makes it an extremely steep trail. It is definitely not for beginners. Jonason commented that it is one of the steepest trails in Southern Arizona.

It is a beautiful area and wildlife includes gila monsters and hummingbirds.

No water is available except for the "seasonal springs" that should not be depended on for drinking water.

The trail can end at Mount Kimball and the vegetation is diverse.
